Cemetery

Past

St. Patrick’s Cemetery began with 5 acres that were acquired in 1853 by Rev. John McSweeney, the second pastor of St. Patrick’s.  Rev. Patrick M. Jones, pastor from 1901-1929 helped purchased additional land and did much to beautify the cemetery.  The grotto in Honor of the Blessed Mother began with his own personal funds.

Present

Perpetual care and renewal of the cemetery have long been a priority for the Cemetery Committee. Maintaining this sacred space honors the history and memories. Throughout the years, students have actively participated by cleaning gravestones and tending to the grounds, instilling a sense of respect and responsibility. This tradition continues today with Father Josh and the class of 2027, who have dedicated themselves to preserving the cemetery’s dignity. Their ongoing efforts throughout the school year help ensure that the cemetery remains a peaceful and well-kept place for reflection. This commitment not only preserves the past but also fosters a community spirit among students and staff alike.

Future

Coming in April of 2026 is a ambitious and beautiful project by Jerry Lundergan and the Lundergan Family. This project will bring a place of reflection and prayer to cemetery  https://www.ggardenofky.org/
